Six years
have passed and the IPL is now considered the greatest success of Indian sport.
With competition lasting only seven weeks in the year (around April), the IPL
is in second place in leagues with the highest average weekly earnings in the
world after the NBA VENUE OF PSL 2018. In 2013, Mahendra Singh Dhoni , the flagship player of
Chennai Super Kings, appeared at the 16th rank of the highest paid athletes in
the world with annual fees of 3.5 million and pharaonic advertising contracts
with companies such as Pepsi and Sony (in the order of $ 28 million).
The latter
also had huge sponsorship deals with the BCCI (last year, Pepsi paid about $ 74
million to become the main partner for 5 years). And the TV rights have taken
off: the Sony Entertainment Television broadcaster dropped $ 1.6 billion to be
able to broadcast the games exclusively in the country between 2009 and 2017
(for comparison, this equates to the TV rights of Ligue 1 / Ligue 2 sold in
France during the same period). Not to mention the negotiation of TV rights
abroad ...
